Islamabad case of PTI Protest

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s two sisters, Aleena Khan and Uzma Khan, reached Islamabad’s D Chowk for a “peaceful protest” and were arrested by police. Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan taken into custody and transferred to secretariat police station

The Islamabad Police on Friday arrested former Pakistan Prime Minister and jailed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s sisters — Aleema Khan and Uzma Khanum from D Chowk in the city for “exercising their right of peaceful protest”.

Arrested Venue

Notably, D Chowk is the same venue where Imran Khan held a sit-in for 126 days in 2014 against alleged rigging in the Pakistan general elections.

Talking to the media at D-Chowk, Islamabad Inspector General of Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi said that police have blocked all entry points to Islamabad and also arrested about 30 protesters.

“Proceedings are underway wherever there are attempts to hurt police or damage property. Till now, there have been over 30 arrests. We are updating the exact numbers. We have a clear message that we will not let anyone take the law into their own hands,” he said.

In a tense political atmosphere, as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters, under the leadership of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, advanced towards DChowk, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi issued a stern warning.

Naqvi announced that no individual or group would be permitted to break the law or cause damage to property under the pretext of protesting.

Imran has been incarcerated since his arrest on August 5, 2023. He faces numerous legal cases, with convictions in several of them. His party continues to stage protests, calling for his immediate release. PTI argues that the government must respect the constitution and uphold the independence of the judiciary in handling his legal battles.

The Jinnah House attack case was heard in the anti-terrorism court of Lahore today.

The investigating officer told the court that the accused have been found guilty in the attack case, the JIT has declared the three accused guilty, the police want to arrest the three for investigation, Aleema Khan was also found present on the spot.

Chairman PTI’s sister Aleema Khan came to the rostrum and said, “Justice should be given to us, we come to the court every day, If sending us to jail is justice then send us.”

Imran Khan’s sister was stopped from talking further by lawyer Burhan Muazzam.

Earlier, Punjab police have requested permission to arrest Imran Khan’s sisters, Uzma Khanum and Aleema Khan, in the Jinnah House attack case. Request has also been made for the arrest of Asad Umar.

Police made the request during a hearing in the Jinnah House attack case on after telling the court that all three had been involved in the incident.

The investigation offier said that a report by a Joint Investigation Team had found all three to be guilty and their arrest was needed for investigation. The officer said that Aleema Khan was known to be on the site of the attack on May 9.

However, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s lawyer Burhan Muazzam said that Aleema and Uzma had not been nominated in the case and demanded to see the statements that had called them guilty.

Imran disappointed with Alvi, says Aleema

Speaking to reporters at the occasion of the hearing, Aleema said Imran Khan was ‘disappointed’ in President Arif Alvi as the latter did not perform his constitutional responsibility by ordering elections within 90 days.

She also added that it seemed preparations were being made to keep Khan in jail for an extended period of time in the cipher case.

Aleema Khan also said that Imran had lost weight in jail but his morale was still high. She added that a petition had been filed to allow him to exercise and walk in jail.
